Euro 2014: Three more medals for the Romanian Juniors

The last day of the Women´s Artistic Gymnastics European Championships started very early today with Junior Event Finals (the seniors will take the podium in the afternoon session, starting 1pm CET). Euro 2014: Romania, Team European Champion

Injuries, health issues, a young team with two new seniors, all these will be forgotten for just one day as Romania defended today its European team title won in Brussels two years ago. Euro 2014: Laura Jurca, silver medal in the Junior All-Around

Laura Jurca and Andreea Iridon represented Romania in today’s Junior All-Around final. The girls had qualified third and ninth, respectively, and were hoping to be able to improve on that. Euro 2014: Seniors wrap up qualifications in second place

Action continues to build in Sofia, where the European Championships saw the seniors take over the podium today. For Romania, Larisa Iordache, Diana Bulimar, Andreea Munteanu, Ștefania Stănilă and Silvia Zarzu fought for a place in Sunday’s apparatus finals, the team final place being virtually guaranteed. Euro 2014: Bronze medal for the Romanian junior team

The Sofia Artistic Gymnastics European Championships kick started today with a 2 in 1 format competition which included both qualification (for the invididual finals) and the team final for the junior gymnasts. Romania wins the last official test before the European Championships

In less than a month, the Romanian junior and senior teams will head to Bulgaria for the European Championships, where they will fight for the most coveted European medals, those of the team competition, awarded once every two years. In preparation for this Championship, the Romanian coaches sent two complete teams to face off the French and Belgian teams in a friendly meet in Avoine, France. Read more…

The Doha World Cup is quickly becoming the season start favourite for the Romanian senior team. For the second year in a row, the top WAG and MAG Romanian gymnasts were sent to compete at this event, with Larisa Iordache, Diana Bulimar (who is coming back from a knee injury that kept her out of the 2013 Worlds), Andrei Muntean, Marius Berbecar and Vlad Cotuna all competing for the first time this season. Andreea Munteanu wins the Jesolo beam final

The Jesolo International Throphy continued today, for the first time ever, with apparatus finals for both seniors and juniors. The Romanian junior team places second at Jesolo

In their preparation for May’s Artistic Gymnastics European Championships, Romania decided to send a team of junior gymnasts at the 2014 edition of the Jesolo Throphy (Italy) made up of Laura Jurca, Andreea Iridon, Andra Stoica, Anda Butuc, Ștefania Orzu and Asiana Peng. They were joined by three of the members of the senior national team, Andreea Munteanu, Silvia Zarzu and Ștefania Stănilă. 2014 Gymnix: Bronze on beam for Ștefania Orzu

After Andreea Munteanu won three medals at Gymnix International´s 2013 edition, another team of juniors from the Deva Olympic Center tried to repeat her success this year. This time, coaches Liliana Cosma (photo) and Florin Cotuțiu chose Ștefania Orzu (photo), Dora Vulcan, Maria Holbură and Adela Florea, gymnasts who will turn senior in the next two years, to compete against juniors from Russia, Canada, Belgium or Italy. Larisa Iordache, Marius Berbecar and Corina Constantin, Romania’s Gymnasts of the Year

The Romanian Gymnastics Federation released the 2013 standings for the two gymnastics branches under its responsibility: Artistic and Aerobic (Rhythmic Gymnastics has  its own independent Federation and will announce its selection separately). In 2013, Romanian Artistic gymnastics gathered 1 World and 7 European medals while Aerobic brought in 5 World Games and 5 European medals, with multiple World Cup medals coming from both areas. Larisa Iordache wins the Glasgow World Cup

The second stage of the World Cup and the last elite competition of the year was held today in Glasgow with two Romanians taking the stage there – Larisa Iordache and Roxana Popa (who competes for Spain) – alongside USA’s Elisabeth Price (winner of the first stage), Italy’s Vanessa Ferrari and Carlota Ferlito, Great Britain’s Ruby Harrold and Raer Thaeker and Japan’s Asuka Teramoto. Four out of six gold medals for Romania at Massilia

Larisa Iordache, Andreea Munteanu, Ana Maria Ocolișan and Ștefania Stănilă travelled to Marseille for the fourth edition of Elite Gym Massilia, which included a Team and All-around competition (Massilia Master) and the event finals (Top Massilia). Mulțumim, Flavius Koczi!

One of the most well known Romanian gymnasts of recent years, Flavius Koczi, has decided to retire from gymnastics after about 19 years dedicated to this sport. He  was part of the elite for seven years and two Olympics, bringing home at least a medal in each European Championship since turning senior in 2006. Read more…

Romania brings home the 2013 Swiss Cup

Romania’s top two gymnasts at the moment, Larisa Iordache and Andrei Muntean, continued their Swiss competitions week by taking part in the 2013 Swiss Cup, held in Zurich. This event has an unique format, bringing together pairs of gymnasts from the same country who compete on three events each. It includes two preliminary rounds, where all teams compete on two events with the top eight going into the semifinal. Read more…

Together with the upcoming Swiss Cup, the Arthur Gander Memorial is one of the most important gymnastics competitions held in Switzerland, alternating each year between the cities of Chiasso and Morges. Look who’s back on the floor!!! No, it’s not really surprising to see Sandra perform her 2013 “Feeling Good” floor routine or even go up on that beam one more time at Mexico’s “Galas de las estrellas de la gimnasia” alongside Ksenia Afanasyeva or Carlotta Ferlito. 2013 Worlds: Bronze medal on floor for Larisa Iordache

Romania ended its efforts at this World Championship bringing home a bronze medal on floor. This is an improvement from the last Worlds where no medal was won but going through today´s routines is probably going to be painful for Romanian fans. 2013 Worlds: Two finals for Marius Berbecar

While the qualification competition continues tomorrow with the second part of the women’s competition (which also includes Larisa Iordache and Sandra Izbașa), the men ended their two day qualification effort today. Except Cristian Bațagă, who is already known as the All-arounder of the Romanian team, the other four gymnasts competed only on their best events covering all except horizontal bar. Read more…

3 silver medals for Munteanu and Iridon in Japan

Two of Romanias best junior gymnasts, Andreea Munteanu (1998) and Andreea Iridon (1999) traveled to Japan this weekend to compete at the Yohokama Junior International, an event that brought together top juniors from countries such as the USA, China, Russia, Japan or Great Britain. The competition was dominated by USA’s Bailie Key who swept the gold medals of the two-day competition. Read more…

2013 Romanian Nationals: Women’s competition

The 2013 Romanian National Championship was one of the most exciting internal competitions of the past years. The podium acquired last year finally allowed Romania to host a top level internal competition. 2013 Romanian Nationals: Men’s competition

The two day competition held in Bucharest early September was a 12 hour a day gymnastics event, putting together both junior and senior gymnasts, MAG and WAG. Three gold medals for Diana Bulimar in Alphen aan den Rijn

With just a month to go before the World Championship starts in Belgium, we were looking forward to see where the Romanian gymnasts were with their training for the most important event of the year. EYOF 2013: 4 medals for the Romanian Juniors

Juniors Andreea Iridon, Laura Jurca and Silvia Zarzu, together with Bogdan Necșa, Ovidiu Prichindel and Robert Ghiuzan travelled to Utrecht to compete at the 2013 edition of the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF). Romania had dominated the previous edition, winning 4 gold and 5 silver medals (among the 2011 competitors, Larisa Iordache and Daniel Rădeanu) so expectations were high this time around too. Romania was represented by five of the National MAG team members at the 2013 University Games in Kazan, Russia – the women’s team did not sent any representative at this competition. It was an interesting weekend for Romanian gymnastics fans with the Romanian team surprising us and attending the Anadia Challenge Cup in Portugal. The 2013 WAG Junior Team Nationals and the Olympic Centers

Onești was, yet again, the host for one of the most important internal competitions of the season, the 2013 Junior Team Nationals which include both WAG and MAG events. Saint Etienne, in France, hosted maybe the most interesting Junior meet we’ve watched so far this year, a competition between the Romanian and French Junior teams. 9 countries lined up for the 2013 Città di Lugano International Trophy, a Junior MAG and WAG competition held in Switzerland this past Saturday. Romania won the competition twice, through Cerasela Pătrașcu (2007) and Amelia Racea (2009). Read more…

Gold and silver for Romania at the French Internationals

It was the first competition of the season for European champions Diana Bulimar and Flavius Koczi, who represented Romania, with Larisa Iordache having to pull out at the last minute due to injury. A cloudy and rainy spring day…I timidly step into the ”Sonia Iovan” gym in Cluj, not knowing how the girls will receive me and what will they say… if they’ll say anything.
