Romania in 5th at L’International Gymnix

Alisia Botnaru (15), Denisa Golgota (14), Ioana Crișan (15) and Olivia Cîmpian (15) are part of the Romanian Junior National team training in Deva under former National team coach Nicolae Forminte. The four were selected to represent Romania in the junior competition at L’International Gymnix in Montreal, Canada. The event was dominated by the United States (Gabby Perea, Deanne Soza, Emma Malabuyo and Jordan Chiles) who won the competition 6.5 points ahead of the Russian team. Here’s the team ranking with Romania in fifth.

Floor and vault were the best events for the Romanians who posted the top total on floor (41,025) and the second on vault. Olivia Cîmpian qualified to the floor final in first after posting a 14.125 while Alisia and Denisa were among the top ten at this event with 13.500 and 13.400, respectively. Denisa placed fourth on vault and goes into this final as well (14.600 and a double Yurchenko from her). Beam and Uneven Bars were the events where this team most suffered.

The All-around competition was an American affair, with Perea, Soza and Malabuyo occupying the first three positions. The Romanians did not come close to the podium, Olivia being the first ranked in 12th.


The gymnasts were accompanied in Canada by coaches Lili Cosma and Nicolae Forminte.
