Laura Jurca in the event finals of the Youth Olympic Games

This weekend’s event finals ended the Artistic Gymnastics week at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in China. Although Romania’s Laura Jurca was among the competition’s favorites and had made it to all the finals, she did not manage to wrap it all up with the medal we were all expecting. She lost the chance of winning a once in a lifetime medal (this competition is held once every four years and is dedicated to Juniors) but Romania has won a gymnast who, if healthy, will definitely be part of the 2015 senior team. She’s shown a lot of potential on vault, where the Romanian team is missing a strong gymnast at the moment, competing a double Yurchenko vault. Although Romania has struggled on bars for years and this apparatus did not help Laura much at this event, she already competes a complex routine which includes two release skills. This will increase her chances of making the senior team next year. After two less successful finals, Laura wrapped up the competition with an enjoyable floor routine which placed her very close to the podium again.

Watch Laura’s routines from these event finals here.
