Larisa Iordache, 2014 Europeans’ most successful gymnast

The Women’s Artistic Gymnastics European Championships closes today after a full day of junior and senior event finals. Romania gathered six medals today for a total of 9 medals earned at this championship (4 medals for the seniors and 5 for the juniors). Larisa Iordache is the most successful gymnast with two gold, a silver and a bronze medal. She was also the only gymnast to compete in all events at this championship, placing in the top 6 in all finals (including bars!). Larisa competed in all four event finals today, winning medals of all colours. She began on vault with bronze, continued with a silver medal on beam (although we are sure she would have wanted to defend her title here) and ended with a gold medal on floor, which she shared with Vanessa Ferrari. Larisa has now won 5 European titles throughout her senior career (two team titles, two on floor and one on beam). Diana Bulimar went out first in today’s floor final and placed just below the podium but her performance at this Championship has been very good considered she had just recovered from a knee injury before this event. Gymnasts, coaches and fans will be happy with this Romanian performance but everyone will now be thinking of the World Championships, to be held in China this fall. Until then, you can watch the Romanian performances from today’s event finals here.
