Euro 2014: Romania, Team European Champion

Injuries, health issues, a young team with two new seniors, all these will be forgotten for just one day as Romania defended today its European team title won in Brussels two years ago. Larisa Iordache, Diana Bulimar, Andreea Munteanu, Ștefania Stănilă and Silvia Zarzu dominated the Sofia competition from the very first rotation and up to the last. The Romanians corrected the mistakes they made in qualification and clearly demonstrated they are the best team in Europe at this moment. Before the last rotation of the day, Romania was leading the field by three points and managed to maintain a two point difference at the end of the day, with Great Britain and Russia making up today‘s podium.

All three Romanians performing on beam and floor (Munteanu, Bulimar, Iordache) finished top five and top six, respectively, on these events. Here’s how the Romanians did on beam and floor today:

Tomorrow nerves will be doubled with both juniors and seniors competing in event finals. Juniors will go first during the morning and seniors will follow during the afternoon session. Find the schedule of these events here.
