Bronze for Andreea Munteanu at the World Cup

Andreea Munteanu competed for the first time in her senior career at the World Cup, held this weekend in Cottbus, with only two months to go before the senior and junior Romanian teams take to Sofia for the European Championship (May 12-18). It’s the first competition of the year for Andreea, a talented gymnast with a lot of experience in junior events (multiple Junior European medalist), who is very much needed in the Romanian camp (the team is mostly made up of recent seniors while the two experienced gymnasts, Diana Bulimar and Larisa Iordache, have been faced with health issues and have not yet competed this year).

Andreea performed beautifully during the Friday qualifications on her two favorite events, beam and floor.  She qualified first in the two finals, scoring 14 on floor and 14.8 on beam.

She probably felt the pressure of those results in today’s event finals. She did not manage to put together the same clean routines she performed on Friday, but she still scored a 13.750 on beam to win the bronze medal. Noemi Makra (beam) and Marta Pihan-Kulezsa (floor) won today’s finals.
