The first stage of the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup is undergoing in Debrecen, Hungary, where some of the best senior and junior gymnasts of the moment have come together to compete. Although the World Cup is dedicated exclusively to seniors, juniors are competing at the “MTK Cup” International Tournament. Romania is represented only at the latter by a team of eight gymnasts, covering both categories (juniors and pre-juniors). The pre-junior (11 to 12 year olds) competition ended earlier today with an impressive result for the Romanians: 7 medals (4 gold and 3 bronze). Denisa Mailat (Olimpia București) and Denisa Stoian (CSM Ploiești) dominated the competition, winning the team gold medal and 3 out of the 4 event finals. With only one major mistake throughout the two-day competition, which is pretty remarkable for a gymnast her age, Denisa Mailat stood out as the best gymnast of this category. She takes home 4 gold medals and a bronze.

Denisa Stoian, one gold and two bronze medals:

In the other category of this event, that of the juniors (13 to 15 year olds), Romania put together a team of four gymnasts: Ana Luiza Filiorianu (Olimpia Bucharest), Ștefana Popa (Anghel Saligny Iași), Andreea Verdeș (Anghel Saligny Iași) and Alice David (Olimpia Bucharest). The girls competed in qualifications these past two days (their overall score here makes up the team result), with event finals taking place tomorrow. We’ve gotten used to seeing good performances from Luiza and this was no exception. Her performances with hoop and ball placed her in Sunday’s finals from sixth and second place, respectively. Here’s her stunning ball routine:

Watch all the Romanian routines here and follow us tomorrow for an update of the event finals.
