Ana Luiza Filiorianu qualifies for the Youth Olympic Games

This year, the Rhythmic gymnastics season barely gave its Junior gymnasts the chance to adjust their 2014 routines before going into their first major competition, the Moscow Grand Prix. This event had double importance for 1999 born gymnasts since it also provided the chance for them to qualify for this summer’s Youth Olympic Games, to be held in China (seven individuals and one group would be be able to represent Europe there). The Grand Prix also includes an international tournament and finals for senior gymnasts.

Romania was represented in this competition by Ana Luiza Filiorianu, current Junior National champion who trains with the well-known coach Maria Gîrbă at Bucharest’s Olimpia club. After her successful presence at the Estonian “Miss Valentine” International Tournament (3 gold medals), she was now looking to improve on last year’s Moscow performance when she placed ninth in the All-around. Despite some problems during her hoop and clubs routines, Luiza managed to place eighth today and qualify for the Olympics (only one gymnast per country has that right). She will be joined in China by today’s winner, Yulia Bravikova (RUS), Maryia Trubach (BLR), Erika Zafirova (BUL), Valeria Hanina (UKR), Linoy Ashram (ISR) și Nikoleta Dulgheru (MDA).

Here are Luiza’s routines, starting with ribbon, her top scoring event today:

Ribbon – 15.350

Ball – 14.266

Hoop – 14.816

Clubs – 14.166
