Three medals for the Romanian juniors at the 2014 Nadia Comăneci Invitational

We’ve grown accustomed by now to see Romanian Juniors attend the annual International session of the Nadia Comăneci Invitational, held in Oklahoma’s Cox Arena in February. 2014 was no exception, with a team of Juniors from the Deva Olympic center attending the event, together with coaches Liliana Cosma and Florin Cotuțiu. Olivia Cîmpian, Alexandra Mihai and Ioana Teodora Crișan are all 2001 born and will turn 16 in 2017, thus missing out on Rio. Ioana dominated her category at last year’s Romanian Nationals, with Olivia right behind her. Alexandra, in return, is a specialist on beam. The three shared all the gold medals at the Romanian Schools Nationals last year, where Olivia won three gold medals. We were looking forward to see how they would do against one another and against gymnasts from Canada, Australia, United States and Russia.

Here they are with Nadia:

The Romanians won the bronze medal in the team competition and two more individual medals in the Junior All-around: Ioana Crișan came second to Russia’s Irina Alexeeva, wining the silver medal, and Olivia Cîmpian came right behind her for bronze. Alexandra Mihai had the second highest score of the competition on her favorite apparatus, beam.
