The Romanian Gymnastics Federation released the 2013 standings for the two gymnastics branches under its responsibility: Artistic and Aerobic (Rhythmic Gymnastics has  its own independent Federation and will announce its selection separately). In 2013, Romanian Artistic gymnastics gathered 1 World and 7 European medals while Aerobic brought in 5 World Games and 5 European medals, with multiple World Cup medals coming from both areas.

Artistic Gymnastics

In the women’s category, Larisa Iordache takes home the title of Romanian Gymnast of the Year, as expected, followed by Diana Bulimar and Sandra Izbașa. She is the current Beam European Champion, European All-around silver medalist and World bronze medalist on floor. The number of competitions Larisa attended this year is impressive and she never returned home without a medal! Although beam was a sweet and sour experience for her this year, her routine is still one of the best in the world. Watch:

In the men’s category, it is Marius Berbecar the gymnast who takes home this title, ahead of Flavius Koczi and Andrei Muntean. Marius was the only Romanian gymnast to go into two apparatus finals at the World Championship. Here he is on Parallel Bars, his best event, at this competition:

Aerobic Gymnastics

In a sport where women and men compete together (in categories such as Trio, Mixed Pairs or Group), Corina Constantin was selected as the Romanian Aerobic Gymnast of the Year after she won gold in all major competitions of this season: the European Championship (Team, Trio and Group), the World Games (Individual) and the World Cup (Individual and Trio).  Here is Corina‘s gold medal routine from the Cali World Games:
