Piscupescu, Filiorianu and Mailat, Romania´s 2013 National Champions

At the beginning of this month, Arad hosted the 2013 Romanian Rhythmic National Championship, a competition opened for both Senior and Junior gymnasts of the top two age categories: Junior I (13-15 year olds) and Junior II (11-12 year olds). All major clubs were present at this meet, with Olimpia Bucharest, Anghel Saligny Iași, CSM Ploiești and CSM Arad fighting for the title of the most successful club – which eventually went to the first, for a total of 24 medals.

Category III (Junior II)

Although the overall medal table of this category was also dominated by Olimpia, this club did not take part in any team competition. CSM Ploiești‘s team made up of Livia Harcan, Denisa Stoian, Ana Toma, Cesima Nechifor (all four selected for the newly created Bucharest camp) and Iulia Chirvasă prevailed over CSM Arad and LPS Baia-Mare’s teams. Livia and Denisa would go on to win individual medals as well.

Individual finals were an Olimpia affair, with Denisa Mailat and Alice David going 1-2 in all finals except ball, where Livia Harcan prevailed. Find the complete results here.

Category II (Junior I)

The Category II competition has become even more interesting since Anghel Saligny‘s Andreea Verdeș and Ștefana Popa moved up from category III this year. They joined Diana Pavel and Andra Ungureanu to form the best team of their category, winning the title over CSM Arad and LPS Bistrița. Although represented by only 1 gymnast, Olimpia dominated individual finals through Romania’s best Junior gymnast at the moment, Ana Luiza Filiorianu (photo), who won three of the five gold medals at stake. Interestingly enough, all individual medals were shared between Luiza and the Iași gymnasts. Find the complete results here.

Category I (Seniors)

Not much has changed this year in this category: Olimpia’s Alexandra Piscupescu and Adriana Teocan dominated the finals, followed closely by Arad‘s Ștefania Chiriac. What is worrying here is the low number of gymnasts competing in this category (13 gymnasts versus 23 last year). Find the complete results here.
