The 2013 WAG Junior Team Nationals and the Olympic Centers

Onești was, yet again, the host for one of the most important internal competitions of the season, the 2013 Junior Team Nationals which include both WAG and MAG events. The Deva and Constanța clubs battled it out for the titles in the different age categories with the first coming out on top in both the Junior III and the Junior II competitions. After the recent restructuring of the Olympic centers – both from a gymnast and a coach point of view – it would be interesting to look at this competition from this perspective.

Izvorani Junior National Team

With Andreea Munteanu, Paula Tudorache, Cristina Vrabie and Anda Butuc missing from this competition, Andreea Iridon, Laura Jurcă and Mădălina Blendea (all of them originally from the Cetate Deva Club) were the ones to stand out for the Izvorani training center in the Junior II category, also getting some of the highest scores of the entire competition. Although Laura won vault (full twisting Yurchenko), Andreea won the other 3 events with her highest score coming on beam. Andreea Ciurușciuc, recently returned from Slovakia where she won the Trnava Gym Festival, finished forth in this category making the podium in three of the four events. This is a great achievement for her considering she is one year younger than the rest of the gymnasts in the top 7. Mădălina was second on bars and beam but missed her floor routine.

Ana Maria Ocolișan competed in the Junior I event, although she is officially a Senior. At her first appearance this year, she finished ahead of team mates Diana Teodoru and Ioana Nicoară, members of the Izvorani Junior team. As an interesting note, Silvia Zarzu, who will be a Senior next year, overscored Ana Maria on her favorite apparatus – floor – and placed second on beam and vault. Let’s face it, there’s not much competition at this level…

Deva Junior National team

After the departure of many of the gymnasts who trained here last year, Olivia Cîmpian, a gymnast already known for her elegance and artistry, is now the star of this group of gymnasts. She placed first in the All-around of her category (2001) and on vault. Right behind her, team mate Alexandra Mihai, who came in from the CSS2 Bucharest Club this year. Alexandra was third overall but won the beam event. In the Junior I category, Miriam Aribășoiu placed fourth.

Onești Junior National team

Georgiana Juravle and Roberta Pleșa were the top 2 gymnasts for the Onești center. Both gymnasts are from the 2001 category and finished second and fourth, respectively, right behind the Deva girls. Roberta won bars, with Georgiana tying for second here with Olivia Cîmpian, maintaing her double layout dismount. Corina Găianu is following her team mates closely, having placed fifth in the same category. Another Onești member, Carmen Glăvan won floor over the Deva gymnasts.

With the 2002 girls (Juniors III, level 3) not yet part of any Junior National team, the competition was a CSM Onești affair with Laura Iacob and Daniela Dumitrașcu placing first and second, respectively. Laura also won vault, bars and floor, while Daniela won beam. Deva’s Denisa Golgotă came in third.
