Impressions from the Rhythmic Schools Nationals in Bistrița

The Northern city of Bistrița was taken over by Rhythmic gymnastics this past weekend! Representatives of clubs around the country met there to compete for the Schools National Championships’ medals. Although I could not follow the entire competition, I managed to be there for a couple of hours on Saturday to get the pulse of Romanian Rhythmic gymnastics for those of you who could not attend. I watched part of the Category III All-around competition – hoop and rope –, the Category IV ribbon competition and Category III’s ribbon and clubs events. I also have some partial results, photos and videos for you. I was glad to see the high number of children competing in each category and the high level of the competition. The girls performed wonderfully but I believe they received too few applauses for the work put in and the beauty of their routines. All the glitter, flowers, colors and smiles brightened up the rainy day outside. There should have been more people there, the girls should have received more applauses and the gym should have been full!

LPS Baia Mare, LPS Bihor, CSS1 Constanța, CSS Reșița, CSS1 Timișoara, CSS Anghel Saligny Iași and LPS Târgu Mureș Clubs were all represented at the competition. The performance of CSS Constanța’s Andreea Sava – an elegant, beautiful, talented yet fragile gymnast – was the highlight of the Category III event. I would also like to mention here Marcela Rob and Iasmina Nașc, both from LPS Baia Mare.

The little gymnasts who performed with the ribbon could not wait to compete…they made the best of their performances although you could see the emotion on their faces. They really enjoyed competing and even getting lower scores was well taken in, something which reminded me of the importance of taking part in a competition, even if you don’t win. CSS1 Timișoara’s Laura Aniței was the one to stand out at this category, a very talented child. Other gymnasts worth mentioning were Roxana Brigheti and Iustina Coșarcă from Iași as well as Medeea Mic from LPS Baia Mare.

Before moving onto the older gymnasts, I got to watch LPS Bistrița and CSS Constanța’s teams’ performances; the Bistrița girls executed well their routine. We also got to see cleaner and more difficult routines with the Category II performances. I was impressed by Diana Pavel and Andreea Verdeș from Iași as well as Ștefania Oltean from Bistrița. They were very graceful and I just wanted to see more by the end of their routines.
